General Description - From this page, you may view draft results and begin to negotiate with drafted prospects. After the draft, your franchise's selected prospects will be listed on this page.
Rnd - This indicates the round in which this prospect was drafted.
Pick - This indicates overall pick in the draft at which this player was drafted.
Rank - This indicates the original overall rank of this prospect on your draft board. If the prospect's rank is lower than his pick number, then he was a bargain according to your scouting rankings. If you have excellent scouting, this is obviously good. That may not be the case, if you have poor scouting. However, draft selections are also relative to other team needs and scouting.
Pos - This indicates the player's projected primary position. Though you may later decide to change the player's primary position as he advances, your scouting services have rated this player at this position.
Age - A player's age is a good indication of how close he is to his projected peak. Most players will peak in their late 20s.
Contract Info - This will indicate the contract agreements once they have been finalized. Users have until the end of the Hardball Dynasty season to sign prospects before losing him to free agency. Most players, those without special contractual demands or other leverage, will sign for slot money. Each year ML assigns a value at which each position in the draft should expect to be signed. This is what is meant by slot money. Hardball Dynasty uses the exact slot money values from 2005. Players who accept slot money will receive this as their bonus as well as a one-year minor league contract for the rookie-ball minimum. At the beginning of each season, all minor league players who have not previously been offered contract extensions will have their contracts renewed at their current level.
Action - If you would like to negotiate with a prospect, please click 'Negotiate' next to that prospect's name. The negotiation process is similar to signing coaches and free agents. With prospects though, the type of contract and bonus matters. Bonuses reflect guaranteed money that will deduct from this year's prospect payroll. Still, most players will sign at minor league minimums. Those who demand big league contracts are looking for guaranteed big league money and an immediate spot on the 40-man roster.
Offer - By using the checkboxes in this column you can offer your draft picks their demands without having to go to each page individually. If you want to offer all of your draft picks their demands simply click the checkbox directly underneath the header. You can also offer individual draftees their demands by clicking the checkbox that corresponds to their row.
How does it all work? - Baseball's Amateur Draft is unlike the other professional sports' drafts. Some of the players will choose to head off to college, return to college or play another sport. Many draft picks come with signability concerns, because the players haven't fully devoted themselves to baseball. If they are drafted, it's up to the franchise to try and sway them with a signing bonus. A slotting system is used as a guideline for signing bonuses, but some players can go above this depending on their leverage. Some players that are drafted and don't sign will return in a future draft.
When will they sign? - Some draft picks will sign immediately if you come close to their needs. Others will drag out the process while making up their minds. Others will wait to see what others sign for and then up their demands. Expect a large percentage of players to sign soon after the draft and some to make it a season long process. Since it's one-on-one negotiating, though, you can always up your offer!
